OKTOBERFEST – PUBLIC INVITED.  Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 12:00pm – 5:00pm. Join us at FOREST LODGE, 11 Reinman Road,  Warren, NJ 07059, (908) 754-7300.  There’s Bernie’s Orchestra, German/American Foods, Special Performance by The Sängerchor of Clark.  The Kids will keep busy with Carnival Booths, Inflatables, and Amusement Rides.   There’s a Vendor Fair too!   Bring your family and friends!   It’s going to be a great day!!   This event will happen RAIN or SHINE!   There’s plenty of covered seating under the Pavilions throughout the park.   Admission $6.00 per person. Anyone that has been to a German city, particularly Berlin, will know that you can’t walk a block without finding an Imbiss (food stand or cart) or pub, that serves Currywurst.  It is the best fast food, that only requires a plastic toothpick to eat. And it is also super easy to make at home.

To make this authentic in appearance and taste, knockwurst is the best to use.  However, I have made it with hot dogs to great effect.  As a German vegetarian recipe option, why not try soy dogs?  The typical side dish to serve this with is french fries, or Pommes.  I make my own, but you could also buy bagged for an even quicker meal.

Difficulty: easy.
Preparation Time: 35 minutes.
Portions: 4.

Ingredients:

• 1 package of knockwurst (5 links) OR 1 package of hot dogs
• 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
• 2 8-ounce cans of tomato sauce
• 1 tablespoon curry powder
• 1/2 – 1 teaspoon paprika
• 1/2 teaspoon sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Zeppelin Hall

We have been waiting for ages to have a beer garden (or biergarten) nearby.  Well, apparently our wait is over! Sometime very soon, there will be a grand opening for Zeppelin Hall.  It is located in Jersey City, New Jersey, right near Liberty State Park.  It is going to accommodate over 800 people, and they are family friendly, even offering a kid’s menu.

They seem to be trying to replicate a Munich beer garden, which is perfectly fine by me.  I can not express the joy I felt at seeing their website!  Can’t wait to try all those beers….

Zeppelin Hall just posted their grand opening! June 26, 2009 – THIS FRIDAY!  Unfortunately we’ll be away, but as soon as we’re back, we are there with lederhosen and dirndl on!  See you there.
